A very fine example of a classic French cylinder/pillar/shepherd French dial made in boxwood. This example is a little larger than usual measuring 12,5 cm height by 3,9 cm diameter maximum. It is complete with it suspending ring and his metal folding gnomon housed in the cap. This kind of sundial uses the hights of sun against the other they use their direction. At the bottom of the sundial is engraved the division of the months from January to June and then from July to December, each month being divided itself in three sections.
The curved hour lines, from 5 to 12 then from 1 to 7, cross the vertical lines of the months. Despite some surface cracks, excellent condition. The item "A Fine And Large Boxwood Cylinder French Sundial, Circa 1850" is in sale since Thursday, January 16, 2020.
