No photos can do justice to the intense glittering sparkle of this fan! The blue silk and net leaf is smothered with hundreds, if not thousands. Of gold and silver sequins of many different kinds: some are flower. Shaped; others oval, interlocking circles, etc. Sequinned work is typical of the Kees atelier, hence the attribution.

The bone sticks are pierced and decorated with etched gilt motifs. The main guard stick bears fine, intricate carving.

Exceptional for a fan of this type and age c. Few loose and missing sequins. It is contained within a contemporary. Silk lined and padded box labelled'Ernest Kees/ 9 BOULEVARD DES. The lid of the box on which there is some.

Foxing bears initials, and a date -'A. Measurements: width when open - 13.5 inches; length when closed - 7.25 inches.
