A very fine antique french violin made circa 1800. Beautiful antique anonymous french violin made circa 1800. The top is made of two parts of spruce, and shows regular and very thin grain lines. The back is made of a splendid single piece of highly flamed maple, the curl very slightly ascending from the left to the right. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood.The violin is covered with a red-brown varnish on a luminous golden ground. The violin is in a good immediate playing condition, with just a couple of tiny f holes cracks.
The head shows pegs bushings. The violin has been entirely revised and set-up, including a new set of Thomastik Dominant strings, a Despiau bridge, a new tailpiece and a new chinrest.
