Rare antique french 18th century master violin made by Nicolas Harmand in Mirecourt circa 1770 for restoration. Fine antique french violin made in Mirecourt by Nicolas Harmand circa 1770. The top is made of two pieces of spruce, and shows thin grain lines widening towards the edges. The back is made of two parts of flamed maple, the dancing curl slightly descending from the center joint. The ribs and head are of the same wood. The head is original, and has been grafter on a new neck. The violin is covered with an orange-brown varnish on a golden ground. The long head, well made in the 18th century french school tradition, is exquisite.
The instrument is proposed for restoration, with the neck button broken and the neck off, and two little cracks at the lower part of the top (none to sound post or bass bar). The little piece of edge missing on the picture will be joined. On the back on the button of the neck can be found the original fire monogram of the maker, N. The violin is 100% authentic.
