The top is made of two parts of spruce, and shows regular and very thin grain lines. The back is made of two pieces of highly flamed maple, the curl descending from the center joint. The ribs, neck and head are of plain maple wood. The violin is covered with a brown varnish on a luminous golden ground. The purfling is very regular, and ends nicely with bee stings on corners.
The violin is close in style to the ones of Nicolas Augustin Chappuy, working in Paris at the same time. The violin is in a good immediate playing condition, with several repairs to the top (none to sound post), a restored joint on the back (with a towel inside), and a little chip on the scroll.
