Fine antique french 18th century violin of the "Vieux Paris" school. Fine antique french late 18th century violin of the Vieux Paris school, probably made circa mid-18th century. The work is close to the instruments of parisian makers of this school such as Boquay, Pierray and Guersan.
The top is made of two pieces of spruce and shows irregular and beautiful grain lines. The back is made of a two pieces of flamed maple. The ribs and head are of the same wood. The varnish is of a an orange-brown color.
The violin is in a restored condition, with some repairs on the top including a soundpost one, and some other at the upper part of the back. The head has been beautifully grafted on a new neck and shows pegs bushings.
The button of the neck has been reset. The violin has been revised and set-up, including a set of heart-shaped rosewood and bone pegs, an ebony tailpiece, a rosewood Cdix chinrest, a Despiau bridge, a soundpost and Dominant new strings set. On the inside back can be found a reproduction label of "Louis Guersan près la Comédie françoise à Paris 1738".
