Fine Old Antique French Master Cello By Francois-jacques Barbe Pere Circa 1830

Fine & rare french 4/4 master cello made by François-Jacques Barbé circa 1830. A fine and rare antique french 4/4 master cello made in Mirecourt circa 1830. The cello was made by the french maker François-Jacques Barbé, also known as "Barbé père", who fought in the Napoléonic campains at the beginning of 19th century. His instruments are rare and highly esteemed, especially cellos. The woods are very nice and the craftmanship is of the highest level.

The top is made of two parts of spruce, and shows regular grain lines. The back is made of two pieces of faintly flamed maple. The ribs are made of deeply flamed maple. The varnish, of an orange-brown color, is superb and in very good condition.

The head is from another maker, and has been recently grafted on a new neck. The cello is in a well restored condition, with a few repairs to the top and lower ribs (not located at sound post or bass bar). On the inside back can be found the original fire brand of the maker, J. The cello is guaranteed original and authentic.
