Emile Mennesson was one of the top masters of the second part of 19th century in France, and his works are always of exceptional quality. The top is made of two parts of spruce, and shows regular grain lines widening towards the edges. The back is made of one piece of a fantastic flamed maple, the curl descending from the left to the right. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The fantastic varnish is of an red-brown color on a golden ground.
The violin is in a mint and wonderfully preserved condition, and is ready to play. This instrument has been entirely revised and set-up, including a new Despiau bridge, a new soundpost, a new set of pegs, a new tailpiece & chinrest, and a set of Thomastik Dominant strings.On the inside back can be found the original label of Emile Mennesson, "Joseph Guarini fecit, Anno 1886 n° 1924, Emile Mennesson à Reims (Marne), Seul concessionnaire pour la France et l'étranger", and includes the "A" series mention and the signed monogram "EM".
