Fine antique french viola made by JTL, Geronimo Barnabetti model circa 1900. Fine antique french viola made in the Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy workshops circa 1900. The top is made of two parts of spruce, and shows very regular and narrow grain lines. The back is made of two parts of a spectacular flamed maple, the curl descending from the center joint. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood.
The oil varnish is of an orange-brown color. The workmanship is exquisite, much better than the one on average Barnabetti violins.
These antique violas are extremely rare compared to the violins which can be found very often. The viola is in an excellent condition, with just a tiny left f hole repair. The instrument is ready to play. The viola has been entirely revised and set-up, including a new tailpiece, a new chinrest, a new sound post, a Despiau bridge and Helicore new strings set.On the inside back can be found the original label of the JTL workshops, "JTL Geronimo Barnabetti, Paris". The viola is guaranteed 100% authentic.
