A fine french master violin made by Xavier Couturieux circa 1840. A fine antique french master violin made by Xavier Couturieux in Mirecourt circa 1840. The top is made of two parts of spruce, and shows regular grain lines. The back is made of one splendid piece of highly flamed maple, the dancing curl descending from the left to the right.
The ribs head are of the same wood, and original. The straight f holes are very nicely carved, the purfling ends with bee stings on the corners. The varnish, of a red-brown color on a golden ground, is entirely original.
The violin is in a superb condition, with just 2 tiny lower f holes cracks stopped by purfling. The head has been beautifully grafted on a new neck some time ago, possibly in the second part of 20th century by Maurice Bourguignon in Bruxelles. The violin has been entirely revised and set-up, including a tailpiece with ebony fret, the matching chinrest and Thomastik Dominant strings. The bridge is older and stamped "Bourguignon à Bruxelles". On the inside back can be found the original fire brand of the maker, Couturieux (twice) Deroux à Mirecourt. The violin is guaranteed 100% original and authentic. The instrument comes with a new rectangular case of quality. The violin has a very deep and powerful sound, warm, with a lot of projection, a fine concert violin suitable for all repertories.
