This cello was made by a french unknown master at the time and belongs to this prestigious school of Guersan, Chappuy, Leclerc, Castagneri. The woods are fantastic and the craftmanship is of the highest level.
The top is made of two parts of spruce, and shows regular grain lines. The back is made of two pieces of highly flamed maple, the handsome curl descending from the center joint. The ribs and head are of the same wood. The varnish, of an orange-brown color on a golden ground, is superb and has a gorgeous patina. The cello was previously a 7/8 size and has been extended to a 4/4 size circa late 18th century or early 19th century (a very costly operation, only conducted on the most valuable instruments). The button and neck has been changed (very artistically), and the head has been beautifully grafted. The cello is in a restored condition, with many excellent repairs on the top and back (including soundpost patches, reinforced on the back by a wood insert).
They have been probably made by Paul Bisch. The cello needs a revision and set-up. It comes with the bridge made for the cello by Paul Bisch. The cello is guaranteed original and authentic.
