A fine small late 17. C French Religieuse mantel or bracket clock. The case and dial are later 17. C but the movement has been replaced in the 19.
C with a standard French spring driven movement. The gilt brass dial plate, enamel cartouche chapter ring, dial ornament hands etc. The case is entirely original 17.
C work and is constructed of a wooden carcase entirely covered in cast brass ornament and brass sheet. Dial with a cast gilt brass ornament enclosing an enamel cartouche signed Gaudron A Paris. Fine quality dial ornament depicting Apollo (Sun god) driving his sun chariot across the sky.
The nicely engraved chapter ring has each minute marked. Fine shaped aand polished blued steel hands. Later 8 day rack striking French spring driven movement striking the hours and a single stroke on the half hours. The clock is in full working order and keeps good time.Steel winding key is included. The clock case is in good condition with no damage. The movement is in reasonably clean condition and in good working order. Good bell in perfect condition. Overall height to top of case finial 16 1/2 (42 cm). Overall width of case 7 3/4 (19.7 cm).
