Fine and large spring driven verge movement of long duration maybe in excess of 2 weeks. Five finely turned vase shaped movement pillars. Unusually for a clock of this type and date the movement is rack striking. Fine flourishing signature to the back plate. Original iron sheet dial which would should be covered with velvet.
Gilt brass chapter ring with each minute engraved and viteous enamel cartouches for the hour numerals. Gilt brass dial mount with Jacques Hory A Paris engraved on the central boss. Original engraved and gilt brass Parsley type hands. According to Tardys Dictionaire Des Horologers Francais, jacques Hory (or Ory or Ory or Ourry) was Maitre in 1658 and was clockmaker to the King 1673 -90.
The movement has not been cleaned for a long time and is somewhat tarnished and a little dirty but is structurally sound and in excellent condition. The rust to the steelwork is mostly superficial particularly the pinions. There is minimal wear to the pinions and the escapement pallets.
The wheel trains run smoothly when spring pressure is applied to the wheel trains. The steel verge and crutch from the escapement is missing and a new one requires to be made. The iron dial back plate needs to be recovered with a suitably coloured velvet. The numeral V cartouche is damaged and needs restoration.
No bell pendulum or case. Iron dial plate 31.7 high x 24.1 wide. Chapter ring diameter 19.2 cm. Movement 14.8 cm high x 16.6 cm wide.
